Appa is the last of his kind - a flying bison. Given to young Airbenders as children themselves, each one is perfectly selected to fit its human companion. Appa has the ability to create gusts of air with his tail and has the natural ability to fly. It is said that the Airbenders learned to fly based upon the flying bison.

      Appa is a gentle spirit, much like Aang. He can be silly and tension can happen between him and Momo but otherwise, he's an reasonable calm and sweet creature.
