Episode Title: The Avatar Returns
Book: Air
Episode Number: 2
Chapter Number: 2
Summary:
Katara and Aang return to the tribe only for Sokka to invoke banishment for the 'foreigner' because of the threat that he, after accidentally setting off the trap, stands as he either would bring them or he, himself, is a part of the Fire Nation.
Katara is enraged by her brother's behavior but Gran Gran agrees with Sokka's verdict and Aang tells her that he doesn't want to get in the way of her and her family and leaves. He ends up resting somewhere for a while.
Meanwhile, the Fire Navy crashes, literally, into the small tribe and Prince Zuko demands the Avatar. No one knows that Aang is the Avatar so they are understandably confused. Sokka attempts to fight off but he's only one person and not that well of a fighter, even with his boomerang. Before Zuko really loses it, Aang arrives on a penguin, knocking Zuko on his face and they move in battle. During this, the fact that he's Avatar is revealed. Watching the people of the Southern Water Tribe vie for safety, Aang gives up if the Fire Navy promises to leave them all alone.
Taken hostage, Katara begins to plan to sneak out and save Aang. While she thinks that Sokka will stop her, he is in fact in the background packing the canoe. Gran Gran even agrees and tells them that their destinies are intertwined with Aang's. When they realize that the canoe will not be fast enough, Appa appears to save the day, though it still takes a while to fly for him. Once in the air, Sokka goes crazy but tries weakly to hide it after Katara stares him down pointedly.
Aang asks the Guards as he's led into the ship if he could take them all with his hands tied behind his back. As his hands ARE tied behind his back, he blows up air, sending one guard forward and the other backwards. After spinning along the walls, running, he manages to free his hands as he searches rooms for his staff. He finds it in Zuko's room, who lungs and they duel yet again. He uses the air scooter and flees into the control room where he flies out the window toward the floor. Zuko jumps with him, dragging him down and Aang crashes into the water.
As he loses air in the water, he falls into the Avatar State and waterbends to knock all aboard over the edge and then as he lands, faints. As more Fire Nation appears Katara attempts to use the water but first freezes Sokka partially before getting it right the second time, freezing the coming people. As they climb onto Appa and take flight, Zuko and Uncle Iroh attempt to bring them down but ends up failing.
Now flying in the skies toward the Northern Water Tribe for Katara to learn how to waterbend, she asks Aang why he didn't tell them he was the Avatar. It was simply because he never wanted to be the Avatar.
