Opening
Heloise is finally getting into the action. While working a afternoon shift, a new face enters the store that will tell her something she hadn´t expected. And it seems as if Carmen´s attempt to get her to recruit is finally going to work.
"Do this, do that," Heloise muttered to herself as she stomped out of the house. Gwydion had pulled into the driveway. "That cat tells me what to do anymore, I´ll rip her tail off!"
He honked noisily. "What?" She shouted over the cold winds. She shivered and pulled her jacket closer over her. The fall season was setting fast, winter drifting in early.
"You seen my Gramma?" He called out, slamming the car door shut. He pulled forward and was jerked to a stop as he glanced behind him. His heavy jacket, or a corner of it at least, had been captured. He snorted and attempted to dislodge himself.
"She´s playing Gin," Heloise grinned. She liked the wily woman enough to consider her a better source versus those that she normally interacted with. "Good thing it´s with a bunch of women. She wanted to play Strip Poker."
Gwydion winced. "Thanks, I needed that image. How´s Liv?"
Liv had taken to her room and spending the other time in a disappearance act. She was reasonably civil though, as if something had broken from her shield.
Well, with Gwydion and Perdita, her new friend. She still ignored Heloise enough to bother her. If they were on the same side, Heloise would rather they be able to communicate. She wasn´t even entirely certain if Liv would ever save her if her life was in danger.
And Carmen had been biting her ass since day one. Even as a feline, Heloise was tormented by the little creature. It had been her fault to befriend but now Carmen didn´t know how to shut up at times. And so pushy too. After that last night a few weeks ago, when she slashed at her for accidentally kicking her, Carmen seemed different, more human even but barely enough to be noticed.
So why did Heloise notice?
She couldn´t turn her brain off. Ever since receiving the pen, she felt compelled to carry it but she had yet to raise it. She wondered what she was waiting for.
She started her car with a sigh. She´d figure it out eventually.
The figure moved listlessly, staring at the street with little interest. She´d look like a cheerful type if she smiled but even her dark lavender hair, long and thick with a twisted braid wrapped around the sides of her hair, to rope around the back carefully with wispy bangs that fell over her dark blue eyes couldn´t save her. She even dressed in bright colors, that went well with her soft but oily Caucasian skin.
She continued to move after a moment´s pause. Her current foster parents had let her have a day off. She´d recently seen her mother in the institution, who didn´t seem to recognize her own child anymore.
Not like she cared anymore. Her mother didn´t see her, fine. She had better things to do. It was that sort of attitude that spurned off any possible good homes. The parents, after attempting reach an emotionally unresponsive child, just gave up after a while.
It didn´t matter that in her dreams, she screamed and felt and cried. But she never said anything and so she watched herself be passed to the next person like a exchange.
The café was small and looked opening. She was thirsty, had money to spare, and it was still daylight enough to hang out somewhere. She entered and felt a subtle change, almost nonexistent. She wouldn´t had paid attention if it hadn´t felt different.
She glanced around suspiciously and stepped up the line. Carefully moving forward like a shop line, she had just decided what she wanted, got her mouth halfway open and met Heloise´s eyes with startle.
Silver light. What was it about the silver light? Her mind raced as Heloise composed herself in a second and spoke up. "What would you like today?"
"Uh
"
"Hey!" A person shoved behind her. "Hurry it up, kid!"
The girl grunted, a elbow went back and a sharp exclamation echoed. "OW!"
"Hey, you! You causing trouble?" The manager growled at the girl, stepping out from behind the counter.
"So what, I got shoved first," she snarled.
"Please, Mr. Stevens, let me handle it!" Heloise began.
"I should call your parents."
"Fat chance," She giggled. "Dad´s been dead and Mom´s nuts. I don´t HAVE parents so go ahead!"
The manager crossed his arms. "I´ll have to ask you to leave." He spoke threateningly but she shrugged.
"I came in to get a drink. Isn´t the customer always right?"
Being thrown out wasn´t all that bad. He couldn´t even throw her so she just skidded on dug heels. "You suck!" The people inside rolled their eyes and resumed to the line, waiting for their chance for consumptions.
Heloise moved awkwardly for a few moments. She wondered if she could bribe herself to leave early, maybe a break, just enough and soon enough, to go find that girl.
She didn´t get either. It was late as she left and she muttered angrily at herself.
"You," a familiar voice came from the side. The girl leaned lazily on the brick wall, glancing at her before gazing at the coming night skies. Unbelievable brilliant with white stars, intermingled in black splashes and the occasional red flashes of stars, it reminded Heloise of something she couldn´t describe well, save for the feeling of utter insignificance. "What is it about you that bothers me?"
She pushed away carefully. The two girls were nearly of the same height, though there was still a visible age difference. "Who are you?" She asked quizzically.
"My name is Heloise Etoile," Heloise responded carefully. "You´ve been waiting this long for me to come out?"
"Sure, why not?"
"What about your
. Caretakers?"
"The Fosters? I don´t know and I really don´t care."
Heloise studied the girl. "What´s your name?"
"Name´s Haldis Thanos."
"I see
let me drive you home, okay?"
She lead the way to the way round back, where her car, inherited from her father, rested, slightly leaning on the side.
"It´s nice," Haldis said with a smirk.
"Gets me to places. Not like I can afford the best." She waved the girl to enter. "Come on, get in."
They snapped their belts in place and the car hovered for a moment before it began to flutter backwards. "Damn brakes," Heloise muttered as she jerked the stick and the whole vehicle jerked back harshly.
"Whee! Inches from the wall," Haldis was twisted around, waiting for the car to crash.
"Will you sit properly!" A whack to the head had Haldis crossing her arms, sitting forward in a pout. "And grow up."
They drove in silence. Heloise always took the back roads and it seemed as if Haldis lived in the boonies anyways. It was a little more than a half hour later before Heloise became suspicious. "This isn´t the way to your home, is it?"
"Home is relative. Where I live at the moment is in the opposite direction."
Heloise jerked the car to the side, silently fuming. "Want me to walk?"
"NO!" Haldis snatched her hand away from the car door. "Why are you being difficult?" She started the car again and listened to it cough, sputter, then give out completely. "Damn it!"
"Hey, could you be quiet? I´m trying to sleep," Carmen´s sleepy voice came from the back.
"CARMEN!" Heloise whipped around, her heart in her throat. Haldis had jumped high enough to bash her head against the ceiling.
"What the hell?" Both girls jerked around as Haldis turned pale. "A talking CAT?"
"Oh yes, that´s so hard to believe," Carmen muttered sarcastically as she attempted to resettle.
Fingers gripped scruff as the poor feline was jerked to the front. "What are you doing in my car?"
"Hey! I think the issue here is why there´s a talking cat!" Haldis protested.
"It´s not as bizarre as you think," Heloise said absently. She turned her glare to Carmen. "I didn´t want cat hair on my seats!"
"You drive a piece of crap. Why would cat hair bother you?" Carmen complained. "Besides, I knew something was going to happen."
"I´ve half a mind to throw you out the window," Heloise growled. "You scratch me, yell at me.."
"You haven´t done anything about your duty!" Carmen protested.
"So shoot me! What do you want me to do, go against Chaos herself to prove my willingness!?"
"You have to help me find Orcus."
"A Kuiper Belt Satellite?" Haldis scratched her nose. "An asteroid?"
"No, a senshi."
"I´m sorry, I thought I heard you say senshi."
"She did."
"Ah.. You know what, I´m going to get out."
Carmen was dropped as Heloise grabbed hair. "No. You live in the opposite direction and regardless of what YOU think, your caretakers MUST be worried."
She attempted to start the car. It rumbled once for her and then there was silence.
"Or we can camp out here until we get help."
"I don´t think so," Haldis stepped out and closed the door was a faux salute. She turned and faced a red-haired man who floated slightly in the air. "Uh
who the hell are you?"
Vulcan smiled very slowly. She flinched at the look in his eyes.
"Get away from her!" Heloise pushed through the passenger door as Carmen squeezed with her. Fingers grasped Haldis´ forearm as Heloise jerked her away. "Get back!" She shouted at Vulcan.
He moved swiftly to land in front of them. They rounded the stalled car, now in the silent street. "I must do as I am ordered. You must be purged."
"As if!" Haldis flipped him off.
He didn´t even look at her.
"He´s a Lost," Carmen hissed. "He´s not true!"
"How droll.." He spoke. "As if a comedy come to life. For what is life but living?" His hand raised in the air, his hammer forming.
"That´s so gay," Haldis snorted.
He glanced at her, a flash of red in his eyes and suddenly, she was laying on the side of the street, shuddering in pain.
"Shit!" Carmen hissed. "TRANSFORM!"
Heloise reached into her pocket but she was too slow as she fell to the side, the chain marring her hip.
"I´ll take care of the smaller one first," he breathed, turning. "You are unworthy of life. It´s a shame but we need to do less with your kind."
Haldis was staring at him in shock and pain, her eyes widen and face blanched.
"Eris Power, MAKE UP!" Golden light rippled around her before tinting black to obscure Heloise from view. It shattered, the golden light reforming as she stood clad in her fuku.
Her yellow tiara glittered upon her brow, with the oval cerulean blue gem shimmering even more brighter. Her choker was a spring green and her collar was spring green with a cerulean blue stripe. She bore a eight pointed, yellow, metal-rimmed brooch, the inside a spring green. Two tiny bow ends peeked out at the bottom, colored cerulean blue. Her waistband was cerulean blue with a five pointed star in its center. She wore a single layered skirt, the end striped with cerulean blue and then white on the edge. Her back bow was a cerulean blue with slender tails that reached halfway down her calves. She wore knee high, pointed-tip edged, spring green boots. There were cerulean blue bands across the top of her toes and one just under the pointed edge from the top. Her gloves were to her elbow with an additional piece at the elbow, sticking out at the sides. This was colored spring green with the upper edge in cerulean blue.
Her fingers graced in the air, shimmering gold to form into an Golden Apple, an E dug in intricately. "Eris Maggot Convulsion!" She threw it as it split and maggots littered compulsively over the man who screamed in shock, disgust, and sudden pain as the insects began to eat at him.
He shook himself, dancing away to get them off him any way possible. Heloise grasped Haldis quickly. "Get going!"
"You.. Stuck up for me.." She whispered, tears gathering. They fell as her eyes widened. "No.. no one´s ever
"
"YOU BITCH!" Vulcan´s scream reverberated in the air. He wove the hammer widely as Heloise felt herself stiffen. She could barely see it but she realized her shadow had locked at her ankles. "DIE!"
"Don´t. You. DARE!" Haldis stood up, blazing in silver light. Her fingers grasped in the air as her pen formed. "Dsynomia Power, Make Up!" She literally turned to stone before the silver light penetrated from her right breast, sending a shockwave of lines to shatter the stone. She stood in her own fuku, exactly as Sailor Eris save that instead of what had been spring green was dark lavender, she had cerulean teardrop earrings dangling from round, cerulean blue studs, and she wore cerulean blue short high heels, strapped across the top of her foot in a crisscross but strapped evenly around her ankles.
"Dsynomia Stone Gale!" The wind picked up as a hand was thrust up. As the storm brewed, the earth ripped and stones barreled out at Vulcan. Partially still blinded by the convulsing maggots, he could barely defend himself. His shoulder was struck and his legs were bent back, his face planting into the ground as he screamed in growing rage. He staggered up, the black aura turning all the more darker as he attempted to attack.
But Haldis stood in front of Heloise, the silver light throbbing brilliantly before him. Blinded by it, he ended up fleeing in rage and shouted promises of revenge.
"No one hurts my friend!" She shouted, shaking a fist.
Heloise blinked as she simultaneously untransformed. "Thank you." It was all she could say. What started out as a sullen faced teenager ended up as someone she finally figured out as.
Her partner.
Carmen nodded sagely at Heloise´s feet. "Your instincts are great. Almost as good as mine."
Heloise glared down at the cat. "Will you go home now?"
Haldis opened her mouth to retort that it wasn´t home but then seemed to think better of it. "Sure."
She paused. "As long as I get to see you again?"
"Let´s get things straight," Heloise crossed her arms. "One, I´m the oldest so I´m the leader. Second, stop making this seem like a relationship relationship. I´m devotedly straight. You do whatever you want but stop sounding like that."
"From one line?" Haldis smirked.
"And that look, stop that!"
Haldis made kissing noises in the background as Heloise threw her arms up. "STOP IT!"
