Opening
A fun outing for Perdita and Liv at an opera ends up facing a beautiful songstress who doesn´t say a word unless she sings. Both are bothered for the young woman has the color of silver, lined in black in her aura.
Liv studied her reflection critically. Dressed in a dark blood red dress, tight fitting and cut across her thighs, with silver fishnet stockings covered by strapped high heel stilettos that made her loom all the more taller. She wore her hair pressed down, curving in at her nape and chin, giving her a relatively tame look around the face. She painted her face gingerly, adding silver eye shadow to accentuate the dark color of her eyes.
She added a smidge more of the ruby red lipstick and nodded. While she dressed well, she was a little too revealing for the opera but she rather liked this version, feeling more like herself than in a simple elegance. She pulled this look off much better.
Gwydion was muttering to himself, flipping through the channels on the television. The lines ‘Why can´t I go? What doesn´t she see in me?´ constantly buzzed around him. Dressed in a old t-shirt with ripped sleeves and week-worn jeans, he didn´t look like he was dressed to impress.
"Even my grandmother is going somewhere!" He snarled at the newsman, as if expecting an answer. The scene changed to the weather. "Fine! Don´t listen!"
"I haven´t got much of a choice," Carmen´s disembodied voice came from somewhere under the couch. "You scream any louder and the people down the street can hear your complaining."
"What are you doing?" He bent down over his folded legs. "Hey!"
She carefully pulled out, her tail flicking out. It twitched as she settled against her own limbs, hiding them from view. "Glad I´m not outside. Snow? I could barely stand the heat!"
"Listen, how about you go somewhere else?" Gwydion began.
"You know what I think would be a great idea?" She continued, as if she didn´t hear his other comment.
"No.."
She didn´t let him finish. "That you invite Adam over!"
Gwydion glared. "I´m not ga
"
"Well, duh! But you guys should be friends!" Carmen butted in.
His teeth gritted. "I was hoping for some time alone.."
"Cause your little ego can´t help but feel rejected every time Perdita barely acknowledges you."
"Will you shut up!"
"Hey!" Heloise came in, smiling as she carried in a tray of popcorn, two sodas, and a saucer of milk. She smiled brighter. "Carmen said you wanted a party! I invited Adam, that new friend of yours!"
Gwydion blinked. "And you believed her?" He asked in surprise.
Her smile dimmed. "I thought it be a great way to get to know each other."
He turned back to glare at Carmen, who had successfully gone into hiding. He looked around in more surprise before frowning as the door bell went off.
"I´ll get it!" Heloise swept the door open, revealing Adam and Perdita talking quietly. Perdita smiled charmingly as Adam nodded his head shyly.
"Hello, how are you? Is Liv ready?" Perdita entered, dressed in a raven black backless dress, with pale black gloves covering three-fourth of her arms. There was a high waist slit at the right side, revealing silver stocking that tapered into flat heeled black Mary Jane´s. She wore her pale yellow high in a messy bun, with wisps falling out, giving her a more adult look. She wore little makeup, a dash of pink lipstick with a softer tan eye shadow. "Hello Gwydion."
He couldn´t stop staring until Heloise elbowed him. He glared at her momentarily before nodding to Adam. "Was´sup? You want to come in?"
Adam walked around Perdita and smiled congenially at Carmen. "Hello, Carmen, nice to see you again."
"Hi," Carmen attempted to look innocent as Gwydion glared at her.
"We´ll be back later, probably late," Liv told Gwydion´s shoulder. Heloise coughed but Liv didn´t look at her.
"Good night, Gwydion. Nice to meet you, Adam," Perdita smiled gently.
Gwydion watched her leave. Adam recognized that look and grinned softly, holding up a tiny bit of paper. "I was talking with Perdita on the way here. She lives in my area and she seemed to find me. She gave me her number in case I had any emergencies. I don´t see why.."
"Thanks!" Gwydion grabbed it with written glee all over his face.
"For emergencies," Adam repeated.
"Too late," Heloise grinned at the knock on the door. She flung it open to reveal Haldis, dressed in layers, with a woolen cap with hanging ears. "Hey, wondering when you´d get here."
"MORE?" Gwydion´s protest went unnoticed.
"I parked a little away. I wanted to meet Adam," Perdita smiled at Liv. She even held the door open for the taller girl.
"Thank you," Liv settled, buckling herself in.
"I´m happy you´ve agreed to come. I wouldn´t have wanted to go alone."
"You could´ve asked Gwydion, you know."
There was a moment of silence as Liv glanced over and saw the stare forward. For a moment, Perdita was gone from the world and then she returned, her eyes downcast for a bare second. Liv was sensitive enough to pick up on it but gentle enough to not ask. Some wounds were deep, she knew that all too well.
The car smoothed its transit to upward in the air, breezing by with nothing but the wind making a sound.
It was a fundraiser event. As the two women sat in a slightly high balcony, Liv was looking through the description.
"Tacita Xenophon, one of the newest and most beautiful voices to hear. She began at the young age of ten and worked her way up to be discovered and loved by millions.."
"She must be a lonely person," Perdita commented. She studied the stage.
"Why do you say that?" Liv was looking at the small, copied photo of the young opera singer.
"Oh, here she comes!" Perdita sounded excited, which got Liv to look with startle. Perdita was normally such a calm person.
The young woman, around Liv´s age, stepped out to the spotlight gracefully. Dressed in a pale blue, shoulder-less dress, tight sleeved that ended at her palms, it was covered by a lacy white dress on top, that tied upward on the left hip with pale lavender roses, bunching as it fell down heavily down the rest of her body. Her bronze gold curls teased and pulled to fall over her left shoulder, she wore intricate diamonds dangling from her lobes and a set of round silver pearls clasped around her throat.
For a moment, it was thought that it was the light reflecting off the carefully painted skin that made her shimmer so but Liv frowned slowly. Even from far away, somewhere in that brightness was a hint of dark. A black lining, almost too thin to tell but it was there.
A shiver went down her back as she glanced at Perdita. The other woman´s head was tilted slightly, eyes closed as she took in the music.
The young singer could sing and it was more than beautiful. It was hauntingly breathtaking and it spurred and spun emotions. Liv found herself captured in the music, her eyes closing slowly, becoming heavy. For a single moment, she panicked before she relaxed completely.
Her eyes opened slowly, her gaze moving forward. And her heart broke in a million pieces. She saw, through a haze, her parents with her siblings and even her dog, talking and playing. So close and yet so far, she reached out as her father turned toward her.
His smile dimmed as his eyes blackened. He stepped back, the fog sweeping in and taking her loved ones away.
She opened her mouth, unable to speak, unable to scream as her father suddenly became ten feet tall, grotesque, and something from her nightmares. "YOUR FAULT. YOUR FAULT. YOUR FAULT."
That forever chant, that stabbed into her already shattered heart. She covered her ears in vain, to shut out the noise. "No! No! Not me! I didn´t know! I didn´t know!"
She felt familiar energy, hated and unwanted, rip through her as she suddenly became Sailor Amaltheia. Surrounded by the others, Gwydion, Perdita, and Heloise, who stared her down with icy eyes and frozen sneers. The wind spoke for them, told them and her of her failure. They knew who she was, what she had done and what she hadn´t done.
And yet, as she turned wildly, something caught at her view, just out from side glance of her eyes. Someone blond, the faintest sound of tears, and the wind barely whispered of a silent scream. For some reason, picking that up brought her to her senses as everything faded as she was back on the balcony.
She glanced at Perdita and wouldn´t have thought anything had happened save that Perdita´s grip on the balcony post was so tight, not only were her knuckles were bleached white, her nails had gouged into the wood.
Liv opened her mouth but her gaze locked on Perdita´s face. She didn´t know why she hadn´t picked it up but that familiar look, the tears streaming down her face. She had been frightened and also saddened.
"Perdita?" Liv whispered her friend´s name, hesitantly touching a hand. That hand wrapped carefully around her´s as Perdita sighed heavily. "Who is she?"
"A Lost," Perdita said quietly.
"Did she do that?"
"She might´ve, I´m not sure." Perdita settled back down. "Let´s listen, shall we?" She asked with a weak smile but her gaze was forward and her chin set.
"Go fish!" Haldis threw out, smirking at Gwydion.
"Does EVERYONE have to pick on me?" He muttered.
"It´s a game, no one´s making fun of you," Heloise said absently.
Carmen was purring, kneading on Adam´s legs. They all sat cross-legged around a short, rounded rectangular table.
"Got any threes?" Haldis asked Adam next.
Adam shook his head. "Go fish."
"Ha!" Gwydion jutted a finger at the younger girl.
"Grow up, Gwydion," Heloise rolled her eyes.
"So, Haldis, how´s the family?" Gwydion asked. It wasn´t in spite, though Haldis raised an eyebrow slowly.
"Be nice," Heloise said instantly, staring her down. "She lives in a foster home, Gwydion."
He blinked. "Oh, err, sorry. Didn´t know," He stared down at his cards. "Nothing works here!"
"How is it? Is it better?" Heloise asked, not looking at Haldis.
Haldis shrugged. "I think it´s getting a little better. They´re so
so
.parental."
Gwydion snorted. "Well, duh."
Haldis and Heloise both threw peanuts at him. "HEY!"
Adam munched on a chip. "Well, what about you?" Haldis asked.
"I live alone."
"Cool! Need a roomie?"
Adam nearly choked on his chip. He grasped his soda, chugging before staring at her. "Excuse me?"
"A roomie, somebody to share a place with?" Haldis asked.
He tried to keep a blank face. "I´d rather not. It´d give my father the wrong, though in his eyes, right, idea."
"Family trouble, eh?" Gwydion nodded. "I barely knew my father. He died shortly after my third birthday. My mother just ended up refusing me in general."
"Really?" Haldis blinked in surprise. "We´re a lot alike. Though my mother went nuts, most of the time she´s unaware of me."
Heloise stared at her cards, trying to not be noticed.
Haldis glanced at her. "What about you?"
"It was freak accident, totally at fault with the government. My mother and little sister were traveling, shopping in general when the area was shot to pieces because of a false report of youma. Hundreds were injured, many were killed. I´m just glad that their death came instantly." She rubbed her eyes.
"Stupid people. If I ran the world.." Haldis began.
"Oh, great, just what we need," Gwydion muttered.
"Hey! Are you saying a woman can´t run the world?"
"I thought one already did," Adam muttered.
They all stared at him. "That´s not funny." Heloise answered.
"I thought it was," Carmen stretched as she yawned.
"Phfft. You would," Gwdyion turned to Heloise. "Have any sixes?"
She threw it down the card. Haldis rearranged her cards carefully.
"Any tens?" He asked Adam next.
"Go fish."
"You think the girls are having fun?" Heloise asked cheerfully. "I´d love to go to the opera."
"Yea, without Liv, though."
"She´s emotionally unstable, you shouldn´t hurt her," Adam said to his cards.
Heloise shrugged. "She only pays attention to Perdita and of course, handsome here," She thumbed at Gwydion.
He stared in surprise. "ME?"
"You didn´t see it?" Heloise stared at him incredulously. "Good god, you are so blind!"
"Love is blind," Haldis said absently.
"What the hell do you know about love?" Heloise tried to stare her down but Haldis held her ground. "Well?"
Haldis rolled her eyes. "I´ve had guys all over me."
"At that age, it´s not love," Heloise snickered.
Haldis glared. "At least I had boyfriends."
"La la la la.." Gywdion plugged his ears with his fingers. "Change the subject!"
"Oh, grow up!" All three of them threw peanuts at him.
"Stop wasting the food!" He winced as one nearly hit his eye. "I´m going to shut up now."
