It was raining as I ran
Looking upward toward the dark clouds
Wishing for the stars to show
To twinkle and sparkle
And send down their luster of light
To cause the shadows around me to dance
But the clouds are looming
Closing off the light that which I seek.
Help, don´t you? For me to find home
I wandered in the darkness and the rain
Splattering the muddy ground
As I slipped and struggled to keep my stand.
It was raining as I ran
And began to soften as I slowed.

I looked outward to the distant streetlights
Few bright enough to light my way.
I move forward in a walk, slowly and methodically.
The clouds were there, scattering my shadow into a million ways
And I looked behind to see a looming darkness biting at my heels
I thought to run and hide
I thought of the stars, so lightless tonight
I thought of the streetlights so dim
And I moved forward gain, continuing my walk.
I kept the pace, going smoothly.

I still slip and trip
I try to hold onto something but there´s only me
The clouds are breaking, my shadow´s still behind me
A dark hole that cannot open
Won´t swallow me whole
I looked forward and upward
The stars beginning to twinkle.
The ground´s sopping wet
And yet I begin to run, sending the spray upward
It covers me, it covers the trees and walkway
It covers the  street, the signs, and it dirties my shoes
I continue onward, past the street lights and through the starlight.

It was raining when I ran
It had stopped when I had
And it began to drizzle as I began to run again.
But I didn´t stop
I don´t need the lights of the stars or the lamps
I don´t need to see the shadows scattering
I don´t need fear the hole that is forever behind me.
I run and I run, sending out the earth to others
I look upward and taste the rain
Feeling it cascade down my cheeks
Mingling with my own rain
It was raining as I was running.
Let it rain.
